ok so im looking for 4 tires for a 2000 durango. here are 2 sizes one is **31X10.5-15 which is on there now and 235/75-15** is the other size this year came stock from factory. my question is with the 2nd size fit and look ok on the rims for the **31X10.5-15? im such a noob when it comes to tires** ---

my 98 or 99 Durango came with 31s You can use either of those sizes. the 235/75/15s are about 29". The 31" tires will be anywhere between 30" and 32" depending on manufacturer. Its a personal choice but your speedo may be off a little. ---

Also the 31s will be a little wider of a section width ---

If you aren’t the original owner, check inside the door to see what your original size was. The previous owner may have went with a different size for some reason. Either way, they will both fit and look fine on the vehicle ---

The rims are both 15 inches in diameter. So the tires will fit fine. 31’s are taller and wider so they would look better to most people. But, if your suspension is stock and a 235/75R15 is a stock size for that truck, it will look absolutely fine. And since you’d be going smaller, fitment is not a problem. ---

Completely reasonable question since most people don’t know how to figure out how many inch’s tall a tire is buy reading the metric measurement (it’s more than just the metric to standard conversion.) ---

The 235/75/15 will be the smallest and cheapest tire for the truck. It will look fine and function fine. You could go with a medium sized 30x9.5x15. These would be slightly larger. Then the largest clearly would be a 31x10.5x15. (Probably the most expensive too.) Going from one to the other \*may change your speedo 2-4 mph at 60mph so keep that in mind. If the truck is stock height, I wouldn’t go too much bigger then the 31’s. If you want something aggressive check out the Dakota m/t from pepboys, I think I got 4 31’s installed for about $400 and they were great. I think there is also a 255/70/15 that is super close in size to a 31x10.5x15, but last time I checked those were expensive for some reason. 235/75/15 has a section width of 235 mm. 75% of that gives you the sidewall, which is 176.25mm = 6.9389 inches. 15 inch rim + 6.9389 top side wall + 6.9389 bottom side wall = 28.87795" tall. ---

He has 31s on it now. I think he wants to go with 235s because they are cheaper. So I think 30s or aggressive tread are beyond his needs. ---

I thought engineers just drank coffee, didn’t know they could use formulas. ---

What i am saying is, car people (except for DR/Slicks) usually don’t say they are running 21" tires, they would say it expressed in xxx/xx/xx. Which is why some people said Huh. Like how people in Canada always drive too slow, or extremely fast on the thruway because they can’t convert Kmper hour to mph ---
