Jon read up, i said look at the price and then look at the metal. And yes titanium is pretty different in appearance than it is stainless steel i think. Titanium is a lot more dull than stainless steel, i don’t think i seen titanium having a mirror finish like that as shown in the picture of the catback. But i am 100% sure that it’s not titanium.

Yeah generally you use certain TIG welding rods for different metals and so on…

For TI you might use USW Stock #4914C but for stainless you might use LAC Stock #S109

There are different welding rods for different types of metals and different ways to weld it…

Generally you weld, like to like…

Really you might as well flange it or do everything the same…

Its hard to find pictures of freakin titanium exhausts… anyway, here is one:

![http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/images/txstimuffler.jpg](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex034/uploads/speedlife/original/3X/9/c/9c1c204ee27586921cbc91659b94ad81d8049315.jpeg)

Although, in lots of cases you are correct Marky:

![http://store1.yimg.com/I/hopup1_1860_33949718.jpg](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex034/uploads/speedlife/original/3X/2/d/2daeaa8b5f19f0bc209d976c02bd6acb51b00b0a.gif)

I guess they can polish it somehow to get rid of the grainy look.

PS - why does every picture I found of an exhaust have a _pre_ burnt tip. That’s pretty much the lamest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

Even HKS, JIC, Tanabe, etc. What is the world coming to?

… thier is no way that someone with the setup to Mandrel bend titanium… ( which requires allot of preheating and prep work and allot of wasted material on dilaing in the madrel shoe and plug, plus the 'double welded seams… is going to be that cheap… no way… As an examply, low end 2.5/3 Ti for a MTB frame which is high volume and in std. sizes is more then $299 for just the TUBE set… not sure how many of you are MTB or roadies but a ‘tubeset’ is the all the tubes that make up the frame. WHen polished the 2.5/3 series also has a very … ‘bronze-ish’ tone to it the only titanium that shines like stainless is 3/5 or aircraft grade… which is 3x the price of 2.5/3 ( the numbers represent Cr/V btw)…

What this looks like is the std way of taking thin sheet Ti. rolling it and then seaming it to keep it’s shape they will punch Ti end plates the only pc that may be actual tubular Ti is the tip… but I don’t think so.

the perf. core and tubes look to be stainless… The reasoning for this conclusion are in the first paragraph.

In the end, it’s up to the customer to care on not, $299 is cheap even for stainless… but you ultimately get what you pay for… If you compare that to Ti systems from Japan or even a Ti system from Magnaflow, yes they make them, your less then 1/3 the cost of the cheapest kit.

The can is Ti and the rest is stainless. I know where the can is made. It’s decent, light and the welds are alright. The rest is stainless.
The product is ok, it’s just a case of mis-representation over the net (ala SS Autocrap).
Cheers,
Rob
