So, I’m all giddy to take the SR on its first little lapp around my complex.

Only to put the car in gear, ease off clutch and…Nothing. :noes:

Clutch lines bled. Pedal has optimum pressure. Everything is in place.
But the car isn’t moving. :wtf:

After talking to someone, I was told maybe the pedal needs adjustment.
Sure enough I adjust the pedal. To a point where the pedal was FULLY
extended up (so it had maximum travel when pushing down on it).

The car didn’t move as I eased up on clutch. Infact, my foot was fully off
the clutch before it began to move. It moved, ever so slowly. But when I
gave it throttle, it didn’t really speed up. Moved at the same rate.
Something still ain’t right.

Decide to bleed it again, thinking more air in the lines. During the bleed
process, after pumping pedal and holding it down on the last pump, adn
then opening the valve and closing it, the pedal would stay down. After
the pedal was brought back up, it had pressure again. Weird.

I played with pedal adjustment some more, but nothing. So I jacked up
the rear end, turned the car on, and put it in gear. The wheel began to
spin. But when I pressed the gas pedal, it really didn’t change the speed
of the wheel. It just continued to turn at a pretty much constant rate.
This was 1st gear btw. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th all spun slower (as you go
higher up in the gear).

Now, when KADE’s clutch was fully toast, I could stick the car in ANY
gear, while engine was running, WITHOUT pushing down on clutch. Not so
in this case. I can’t force it in ANY gear without pushing down clutch.

So my clutch disc can’t be toast, can it? What could it be?

I’ll change the slave tomorrow with the (almost) brand new I have from
the KADE (hence my post earlier about interchangebility).

Master cyl.? Slave cyl.? Fork? Throw-out-bearing? Clutch disc? Pressure
plate? Rear diff?

Just wondering before I have to pull the tranny out which I am REALLY
not looking forward to doing.

So close, yet so far. And things were going SO smoothly too. :sadwavey:

**CLIFFS** : Put car in gear, but doesn’t move. :dunno:

When the car is at neutral, and then you depress the clutch does it make any noise? Disappear when you press the clutch? Are you sure u assembled the fork and clutch properly?

I hear no no noise, grinding or anything ordinary. In neutral, in gear,
shifting gears, etc.

And the tranny was never removed before dropping motor in.
Please, please, spare me the lecture on _“always drop the tranny before putting motor in”_

well if its going into it gear while the engine is on etc and its not grinding/banging then the clutch is probably toast no ?

get someone to watch the slave as you push the clutch… see whether it moves and pushes on the part of the shifter fork that sits throu the bellhousing ?

shifter installed properly and pulling the mech inside proper ?

Either you didn’t read it or I may have confused you.
I’ll explain again:
What you said above happened in my KADE when clutch went. This
DOES NOT happen in the SR. I cannot force it into gear without pressing
the clutch WHILE engine is running.

And the slave moves fine.

Gonad, sounds like there is something there clutch wise but it is either a toast clutch or something is together wrong.

To check if you have to take the tranny off takes all of 2 min.

Put the car in gear, get under the car and pull the slave off. Now you can either start it on the ground and try to drive around (no clutch remember, don’t aim it at the garage), or you can leave it in the air and see how the wheels turn compared to RPM. That’s all there is to it. Pulling off the slave should make the clutch stay FULLY engaged, pedal height, bled system, slave condition and all that other bullshit don’t matter now. Simple, follow?

Now only two things will happen, it will work fine, not slip and accelerate with throttle (of course you can’t switch gears without finesse so don’t try). In that case something is wrong with the pedal, MC, steel line, Slave, fork mechanism. We can figure that out simple enough.

Other possible result is it slips, ie as soon as you give it throttle it won’t go anywhere, or moves forward slowly. Whatever the case, you are taking off the tranny, unfortunately. No amount of adjustment is going to fix it in this case, something is fucked… again, that can be gone into detail if it’s the case.

Now tell me, why didn’t you pull off the tranny to see if the clutch was ok BEFORE you put it all together? :bash:

I was going to start it in gear today with slave full off before I went ahead
and changed the slave itself.

> [@Nave](#):

> Now tell me, why didn’t you pull off the tranny to see if the clutch was ok BEFORE you put it all together? :bash:

As for why I didn’t, well, its a very low mileage motor. I expected at least
a ‘driveable’ clutch, one that would let me drive it for a good month

- 1200KM to 1700KM in one month. And I had planned to replace the
clutch next spring anyways.

Sure it would have been easier wiht motor off, but the SR tranny appears
to be easier to remove (the bolts) and I have no problem doing it again;
just not this soon.

It was my choice/decision; its not something I’m gonna regret as a mistake.

</div>

Before you got tearing the clutch off check two things:

1. I know on the S14 there is a T in the clutch line system and you have to bleed that aswell as the slave or air can stay trapped in there.

2. Have a friend push the clutch while you watch the slave, if it moves completely then you know something is wrong with the clutch.

Well I just put the car in gear, removed clutch slave, raised the rear
wheels off the ground and fired up the engine.

Both wheels and driveshaft **NOT** spinning.

And the fork appears to be in the fully engaged position.

Guess its time to take the tranny off.

If you do come, you can leave before your Thanksgiving dinner. 🙂

It’s ok. No help needed.

Tranny/clutch is out. Maybe it’s me but it looks like the disc still had
some meat left on it.

So what was the deal? Throw-out-bearing? :dunno:
Tranny internals? :noes:

Edit: Ok, maybe not internals. I spun the input shaft in gear and the end of
tranny spins accordingly.

How does it compare to something like ACT Heavy Duty 6 Puck Clutch Kit

Fuck now I gotta figure out what clutch I want. :run:
