I purchased this kit-

I since have found out that a local tractor store sells the gallons for $38
- 1/3rd to 1/2 half gallon will do a average sized car \*
It was very easy to apply and made a minimal mess of me and my driveway, I actually made more of a mess changing the oil, plus Fluid Film is lanolin based so it is fairly harmless to you and the enviroment

I really want paint, not sure why. Gonna do some driving around tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I like that spray bottle/spray wand though.

Just called Carwell and they said they’d do only the undercarriage for $50.
I’m wondering if it’s even worth it for a new car with today’s rustproofing from the factory. Probably not.

Really depends on how long you plan to own the car as well. Let’s say you own it for 10 years. I would more than gladly pay $1000 over 10 years to keep it rust free. And if you’re just doing the undercarriage, then even $500 to keep things clean underneath I would think it to be worth doing.

Lol then don’t bother. I’d just wash it regularly. If you were keeping it longer, then maybe. I’ve heard of some horror stories of dealers pulling some BS to keep from having to honor the rust warranties.

My Accord wasn’t that rusty underneath after 14 Buffalo winters. It could have been better, could have been worse.
I would suggest applying wax to the leading edge under the hood (spray wax in between regular wax applications as well), in addition to the seams on the insides of the door and trunklid. Also a good idea to clean the rear wheel well lip and coat that with wax. I only began to see rust bubbles behind my Accords rear wheels this past winter by doing this about four times a year (spray wax more often, especially the wheel well lip).
Otherwise, LazerWash a few times in the winter and that was it. Rinseless wash is also fantastic for winter (Optimum is good, Duragloss’ new Rinseless Wash is very good).

I think i’m going to do the carwell undercarrage and then just spray the body weekly in the winter at a spray booth… thoughts?

I recently had the schmitts ruststop done and I’m thinking I should have went with the carwell product. It definitely sounds like its a better product, and they may do a better job. It seems as if schmitts also drills holes- but I think the dummy that did my car didnt plug the one in my hatch door as the same day it looked like snots were running out of it. Are they supposed to plug the drill holes? Not to mention he also left a greasy hand mark on my gray leather seat. It also rained the day I had it done and I’m worried about whether or not the stuff washed off due to it raining so soon.

pretty sure it’s water proof from the get go.
But yea, chances are they don’t prime the holes they drill so the metal around the hole rusts out eventually, I’ve seen it first hand when I worked at John Hotlz.

Anyone that is thinking about doing it this season should think about calling ASAP. Schmitts in hamburg is booked until Jan 19, and carwell got me in Dec 3. Those dates are from when I called last week they could change if they get cancellations or anything. Figured I’d let you guys know. Call and ask when they can get you in if your interested.

Carwell still does them although I’m thinking of giving Rust Kote a try this year, they are a forum vendor after all.
