> A: Not only, they can’t be left alone to work, but they don’t have the skill, experience, or knowledge to build a safe, and reliable building by themselves.

> Its roughly based on how organized labor continues to use government-imposed wage rules to make up for its weakness in persuading workers to join unions voluntarily.
>
> Wherever they still exist, prevailing-wage laws drive up taxpayers’ costs. Instead of determining actual market rates, government agencies generally designate the (usually higher) union wage in a given area as the wage that “prevails” in local construction.
>
> Besides paying artificially high wages, businesses with state construction contracts must follow complex rules, also based on union contracts, for classifying workers. In the Albany area, for example, teamster wages must be paid one of five rates from $22.17 to $22.57 an hour. The variance has nothing to do with the market for skilled drivers. Instead, it depends on whether the work involves a panel truck, a mixer truck, “double-hitched equipment where not self-loading” and other union-related criteria.

two points here

Q. "How are a few bosses, supposed to watch several dozen apprentices? Oh yeah…they can’t. "

A. Thats why all unions have ratios in place 1 apprentice for every 3 journeymen

Q. “Why do you think apprentices get paid less?”

A. Because the company employing them pays for there school benifits and union dues untill they are educated enough to work on there own.

I worked in the union for 4 years and now am working non union and the difference can be seen imediatly, non union workers dont give a shit, they show up late, take long breaks, and leave early. Why you may ask because they know the owner is still billing them out at 400% what they are making and they know if they are fired they will go someplace else and do the same thing. Half the employees speak little or no english and all they know is there making 2x what they did in mexico or wherever the fuck they are from. Your argument is bullshit and obviously you dont have the experience you say you do. Oh and whoever said goto college FUCK YOU some people cant afford college that is no reason to rob them of an opportunity to make good money, yet more babble that keeps the rich rich and the poor poor.

About the non-union workers thing…

thats entirely un-true.

Union workers do that shit though…why? Because they are protected by the union, when it comes to being fired.

I have a decent sized workforce under me in my business. If problems like this occur… they are canned. Plain and simple.

I do have the experience. I haven’t been in a union for a couple decades, so I know things are different. But from a private business owner, I think what unions are doing, are rediculous.

Anybody can go to college. Apply yourself. Take out loans. Don’t be a screw-up, and you can do anything you want.

Oh and I would put a money back garuntee, that my craftsmanship, is far superior than that of a union worker. It helps to be a perfectionist.

Exactly the opposite, i work hard for a living and sacrifice a lot!

What I’m saying is be careful of the choices you make, saving $2 on your next purchase may someday cost an Americans job, then your taxes will help pay for them since they can’t get another job to support their basic needs (not corvettes, their needs). So you will then bitch about taxes being too high and get cheaper on your other purchases.

I work in the auto industry, I don’t believe that foreign cars are evil, but there certainly is not a level playing field in the industry, thats because the gov’t. is making more money and gets public support by allowing the cheap import option.

Read up on U.S. tarriffs, our “global economy” is retarded because we’ve left our own jobs vulnerable.

By the way, within the last year I’ve heard so many unions getting blasted from every angle, next time your at the doctor ask why the over the counter medicine costs $25 a bottle but the prescription brand thats a wee bit stronger costs your health insurance $400. Guess what this is the real racket, cause nearly everyone has health insurance, and those companies are in business to make money, so they charge you up the ass, then the drug companies and doctors figure if the insurance company is making so much money, they should charge more!!!

Guess what, then the insurance costs go up so they still make money and you take it in the ass harder. Any arguements on this one?
