# VAG-COM for B7 A4

The wife’s car needs a trans fluid change and a few DIYs I found call for you to monitor trans fluid temp while refilling. Anyone have VAG-COM so I can hook it up and take a peek. Do I just need a cable to use with my laptop (and use free software downloaded online), or will I need to borrow the whole laptop setup from someone?
I live in Lancaster, work in the city, can meet you anywhere after 5 on weekdays and anytime on a weekend.

Just monitor external case temp with an IR temp gun. As long as it’s just warm and not scorching hot you’re golden. This is how we usually did it at the dealer. Done dozens like this.

VW specific or a Snap On or whatever style? My little MAC scanner didn’t have the capability to see trans temps.

Will the case heat up equally with the fluid? Also, what case temps are we shooting for? From what I read, I was looking for between 32 and 40C.

Bumping this. Have a vw with a SES light on from a misfire. Can’t get it off and want to see if anything else is wrong. Misfire is gone.
