No one here is likely to fall for this crap but you probably know someone who might. It’s a letter that looks like it’s from the DMV, says “Response REQUIRED” and implies that if you don’t extend your warranty you might have problem with the state:

I get those things at least 2x a month. Shredder food.

When I worked for GMPP we had to send lawyer letters all the time to companies that used the GM logo in official looking letters about their warranty running out.

Do people actually believe the DMV has anything to do with their vehicle warranty?

It from the MVD not DMV.
that should make you suspicious right away for those not able to make the distinction.

I get these too. I wonder if you could file a complaint, since it’s clearly meant to trick consumers. The other ones that I hate getting are the local dealerships (like Doeschel), that send out marketing materials in the form of a letter that looks hand written, but is just a sneaky font.

Another common trick they do to sound more legitimate is a bold notice on the front stating that “18 U.S. Code 1708: interfering with the delivery of this is punishable by …”. It sounds scary, but it is just the mail law, it has nothing to do with that specific parcel.
