congratulations to the lucky ones who have it now > ‘Tis fun while it lasted, yeah? Verizon’s [FiOS](http://www.engadget.com/tag/FiOS/) has provided a much-wanted (or much-needed, some would argue) sliver of competition in markets that were previously offered just one or two ISP options, and the [wicked fast](http://hd.engadget.com/2008/12/07/verizon-ramps-up-for-100mbps-fios-internet-in-2009/) speeds available through the fiber-based service were just one big stream of cherries-on-top. We’ve personally noticed that the company has slowed down the rate at which it blasts out releases trumpeting new FiOS and FiOS TV markets, and now we know why: an _Associated Press_ report notes that the operator has canned all public plans about expanding its FTTH home network, though it will continue to build-out where it had previously announced service (Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia, namely). Of course, Verizon never stated that it would be making FiOS a nationwide service, but after hitting at least some sections of 18 states, we had high hopes that it would keep on keepin’ on. Unfortunately, it looks like you’ll be forced to move to [FiOS-heavy Massachusetts](http://hd.engadget.com/tag/fios,massachusetts), or simply gaze endlessly from your apartment window knowing that you’ll never feel the warm glow of a FiOS wire. Well on a side note this made TW push out DOCSIS 3 which will be available in most of WNY next month ---

What’s the actual speed of TWs DOCSIS 3? I’ve always thought it was 4x40Mbit… = 160Mbit/s. But after your post I read around and it seems to range from 80-200…? ---

They should be rolling out 30x5 and 50x5…I think they also offer 20x2 but that isn’t D3. ---

This is the same reason Google magic fiber to everyone home plan isn’t going to work…Its a huge investment and the returns are :tif: ---

Does TWC have a map of addresses that can and cant get FIOS? I guess if they’re not going to bring it one block over to my house I’ll just use it as leverage for lower docsis 3 prices. ---
