# Weird PC issue

ok. i just built a new one. it was working great. then something weird happened. i took out the DVD drive (so now there is nothing in the bay) and that is it. i didnt do anything else. now when i touch the metal part of my chair, something shorts or something and the computer restarts itself without warning. keep in mind that i have hardwood floors and the computer is on a wooden desk…any thoughts?

when you took out the drive you musta had static somehow prolly seems like I had a set up that did simular when i tryed to hook something up in the front port of the usb soon as it touched it would restart.

nope never bothered, almost seemd like a ground issue to me everything works right? just when it hits metal craps out? make sure u didnt detach ne thing when you took the drive out

wait, so you touch your chair it resets the computer?
thats odd… check to make sure it’s properly grounded but then again, not sure why touching the chair would affect it

sounds like static. i had static blow out my power supply once

it is definitely static. but why? everything seems grounded. the chair is on a freggin wooden floor with nothing toughing it. hmmm. ill check the USB port and see if that may be it.

this actually happened to me once aswell. never figured out why and it only did it one time. weird

CHeck all of your standoffs in the case, Make sure you didnt put a screw in wrong or drop one or anything like that.

well. it seems to be fixed. i dont know WTF happened. i had the firewire in one of the USB headers on the mobo. maybe that messed it all up. but i thought that is where it went. hmmm. anyway, i switched it back and it doesnt seem to be happening anymore. what a weird thing. i have such bad luck. i will never use firewire anyway, so its not a huge loss.

i always keep one hand on the case at all times when im working on a computer
