Where to go in Buffalo area for professional A/C service? Including: - Diagnose A/C compressor - A/C refrigerant recovery/evacuate - Vacuum the A/C system - Recharge the refrigerant In other words, if I go to “Mufflerman” for exhaust related problems, where should I go in Buffalo area for A/C problems? ^Thanks! My A/C is having a weird problem…The refrigerant level looks good, however, there may be something wrong with either the compressor or related components. Is it possible for me to drive to Licatas and simply show them the problem to get a quick diagnostic/opinion? ---

i would call ahead for an appointment for diagnosis, and then advise you would be likely to do any major repairs yourself and ask them to evac the system to allow service if required and you would return for a recharge. if you’re clear ahead of time, they’ll be likely to comply. be warned as they’re unlikely to warranty any work they did not do, but if it’s something small i would just let them do it, and be done with it. ---

You could probably do it your self. Describe the problem. If the A/C compressor isn’t turning on, it could be that the freon is low or that the pressure switch is malfunctioning. I am waiting to replace the condenser and drier on my M3. It sucks not having A/C in Texas, especially when it rains out. ☹ ---

The problem is really weird and seemed to be pretty common with 2003 Honda Accord. The A/C will work normally for the first 5-10 minutes. After that, there will be this weird “thud” noise coming from the compressor related area. When this occurs, the A/C will start blowing warm, humid air. It appears that the compressor is trying to engage, however, 1 to 2 seconds later, it would stop working. This will keep going on until the compressor finally able to work normally again. One exception though, when I drive on the thruway around 60-65+ mph, this problem will not occur. As soon as I leave the highway and drive stop-and-go, the problem reappears. One thing to note: I recharged my A/C’s low side with one small can of r134a refrigerant. I tested the system multiple times with the gauge and it shows 35psi when the compressor is working and around 45 psi when it is not working…This probably debunked the possibility of overcharging…however, my gauge might not be accurate. ---

Almost sounds like a compressor clutch issue more then anything. ---

since there is a possibility of a big job, i really would to have my car’s AC system to be diagnosed by a skilled and trusted mechanic in this area. any suggestions? ---

You could probably have Carnut check it over. He would have to have someone else fill it though unless those do it yourself recharge kits might do the trick. PM him and find out.
