I just received a call from good ol’ Bobby Mo. It was my Financial AID consoler. The problem seems that when I filled my taxes I only made about 1600 dollars for the entire year of 2006. Well ,of course, thats not totally true because I worked under the table most of the year and had cash savings. She questioned me because I filed as an Independent student. I will be 24 during the 07-08 school year. From my understanding, It does not matter where I live being 24 makes me an independent student even if I still am living at home. I have researched this on all of the Financial AID help sites and FAFSA site. They all ask if I was born before 1-1-84, which i was, as the first question to begin determining your status. If you answer yes to one or more or of the seven questions then you are Independent. My consoler asked me to FAX her a letter and sign it stating that I currently have no assets( savings or bank account) and that i used cash savings and fin aid refund checks to support myself last year. Im just wondering why she would need me to state that about my finances to determine my AID? Everything shes asking I already gave her when I Faxed her my 2006 Tax Return. Am I missing something here? Or do they think Im trying to pull something? ---

The other thing I wanted to mention is that neither my mother or father claimed me as a dependent on their 2006 tax returns. ---

She is probably questioning you because it seems that your parents should have claimed you as their dependent, since you reported you only made $1600 and live at home. You better hope she doesn’t turn you in for some sort of tax fraud. ---

FAFSA sucks balls. I already made a thread about how I’m getting anally raped with no lube from FAFSA Good Luck. Talk to FAFSA or go above your cons. head ---

My dad actually lost out on for 4k credit from hope credit/ lifetime learning on his 2006 tax return. The only illegal thing I did was work under the table. i guess we will see how things work out. Its not FAFSA trying to fuck me, Its RMU. ---

Great News. I received my award letter for the 07-08 term. My Financial Aid worked out very well for me. I should only be taking a subsidized 4500 Stafford loan and a Unsubsidized 4000 Stafford Loan. I was offered a Federal Work study of 1500 a semester which I will be declining in favor of increasing a Stafford loan to cover books and other living expenses. The rest will be covered by PHEAA, Federal Pell and RMU Colonial Grants. Im getting good at understanding financial aid :)🙂 Jimmy ---
