What makes a CB “hawk”…a hawk?
Like what sets it apart from a normal CB?

there’s a few different variations of “hawk”…

the original hawk was a 400cc automatic in the mid-late 70’s. It has a very odd shaped frame and gas tank and is just overall pretty ugly and stupid.

then, there was the period of time in the end of the 70’s when all the manufacturers were switching over to dual overhead cam technology and Honda started calling the CB’s “nighthawk” models.

then in 1988 they came out with the “Honda Hawk” NT650 and NTV650 (RC31) race homologation bike which is pretty fucking awesome. This bike was made until 1991 and is a 647cc V-twin and is pretty fun as fuck. Anyone with a chance to own one of these, should.

No he rubbed some sand all over it, then poured the leftover sand on the trans parts and boxed 'em up. Brutal, really.

How about a 78 450cb hawk. Would you stay away from that?

Can’t really comment on a bike that was never built. In 1978 Honda had 2 versions of the 400 hawk. One was manual shift and one was automatic. The 450 Hawk didn’t come out till 1982 and was a better bike. They are fun to rip around town on and the mills are bulletproof.
