# Why is the ocean so salty?

I just got back from San Diego. It’s so fucking rad there. I did tons of awesome shit and don’t have a single picture to show for it.
I went surfing, rock-climbing, sunburning, hiking, driving, partying, “fishing”.
The only thing that i wanted to do that i wasn’t able to was hang out with a bunch of awesome black people at a black person party…
Surfing is awesome and not too hard to get the hang of… but WTF why is the ocean so fucking SALTY… lighten up a bit…
I envy originalsin, rage87, hypeville and 95blackLS for their awesome geographic location.
Also… TONS of babes in San Diego… TONS.

San Diego Rocks! Weather is just too perfect all the time, hence the “sun tax”. people are super nice and all super happy all the time. just a great place to be. I would love to live there but it so expensive, I just get way better bang for my buck in Phoenix.

i’ve never wakeboarded, but i have skated and snowboarded…
I think that surfing is the kind of thing that is simple to get GOOD at, but hard to be AWESOME at.

San Diego is so nice. Super expensive tho but everything is on the west coast tho.
I agree. Its not hard to balance and get the basics of surfing. Just doing more than that tho takes some serious skill.

Agreed on everything in OP. But there’s no black people in San Diego. Closest thing you can come is mexicans. Last time i was there, other than the Chargers team, I saw 2 black guys in 3 weeks.

False. i was there New Years Eve (12/31/06) and was at a house party that was 98% black people. Best NYE ever.

it was a longboard, i heard the short boards are harder, but i actually think i would do better with it…
surf seemed awesome…

Short boards are incredibly harder. You don’t float above the water on a short board since it doesn’t have to volume to displace enough water to keep you up. Therefore paddling is a lot harder, and they require much more balance and finesse when getting/staying up.

Wow. It must have been the entire city’s population of them.
Of course, I was in La Jolla and Mission Beach when I was there. Doesn’t seem like those would be the black 'hoods.

i was told it’s easier to paddle faster on a short board… I had trouble paddling fast enough sometimes…
