Redline didn’t do as well as I thought it would. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that it got so thick at low temps. My truck doesn’t like to shift very well on the couple of cold mornings we’ve had so far…

Hell no, it’s not called Amsoil on the Edge.

Seriously though, I’m sure Lucas is crap, didn’t think it was literal though.

The only thing is that everything is weighted on a 1-14 scale, and everything is weighted equally. i.e. Some things should be on a 1-7 scale, some on a 1-28, some on a 1-70.

I usually buy the mobil1 gear lubes and ATF because walmart sells it and I don’t have to order it special.

I cross posted this on a technical dsm forum and got some feedback from a snowmobile racer…

> [@eglsfly](#):
>
> Amzoil sucks.
>
> They are local to me and I have used their products including their gear oil on numerous occasions. Nothing like toasting 10K snomobile engines because their oil can’t protect pistons. Numerous 2-stroke failures with their products, switched oils 5 years ago, haven’t had an oil related failure since switching to Redline race oil. On that same note, buddy I ride sleds with is an Amsoil dealer, he burned down 6 engines 2 winters ago, last season I convinced him to switch to Redline, no engine failures in any of his machines last season and he needed to lean the engine out 10 main jet sizes. Pulled his cyl’s 2 weeks ago and the pistons still look brand new. When he asked Amsoil about the differences, they offered him free product, he asked if they were going to pay for engine rebuilds if any engines burned down, can you guess what their answer was?
>
> They also kill engines with their 8K oil changes, at the Toyota shop I worked at we had had an abnormally high failure rate using their products. Their heavy duty diesel oil also is piss poor in my opinion, very thin at 4k and my cummins was noticably quieter when I switched away from their products.
>
> Another interesting fact is they buy Mobil oil and add their additives to it. The base stock(mobil) is tested to 5k, their additive is untested after it is combined with the mobil base stock, so what are you really getting? Snakeoil?
>
> And for my last I hate Amsoil comment, Amatuzio stole the synthetic recipe that he made millions on from a small engineering company in the 60’s. Allsport Power Oil was the company he ripped off, the oil was tested by Smoky Yunick and is mentioned in some of his books. The guy Amatuzio stole the formula from died peniless while Amatuzio got rich.
>
> Too many bad points for the company as a whole for me to entrust my tranny to them. It is also interesting to mention these things to the owner of Amsoil, he clams up when you mention Allsport Power Oil.
>
> Neo is the oil I run and it has performed with out fail, trans shifts like butter at 9k.

> [@eglsfly](#):
>
> Amzoil has manipulated testing data in the past to show the Amzoil product in the best light possible.
>
> If you can’t get engine oil right, why would you trust your next most important piece in the car to them? They also said that an engine that runs does no good with a tranny that can’t move the vehicle.
>
> I also find it interesting that they point out numerous reasons for diff and trans failures in the beginning and then at the end they reccomend doing what they said leads to diff/tranny failure mainly extended drain intervals. They do this to show the “cost savings” of their product, how it isn’t all that expensive because you only change the fluid every 50k vs 25k before.

Looks like Amsoil is a pretty shady company.

I can’t trust anything from someone who can’t spell a word as simple as Amsoil properly.

It looks like they loved Amsoil in the first link listed. We’ve run their engine oil in plenty of customer’s cars who sent it in for oil analysis and Amsoil always tested better than whatever they were using before. I’ve never had any issues with their engine or gear oils so I trust them.

I’d love to see a non synthetic 75w90 test…
