# Wireless internet problem

I bought a linksys wireless router, and I’m trying to get everything set up and it says its connected, but acquiring network ID. I can’t figure out how to get past that. If anyone can give me some ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Go into the router at 192.168.0.1 and disable the wireless security, make sure you can get online, then config the security to your needs.

Why? So people can leech off your internet and get into your network? Its not really a solution really. You want to keep security on.
What model is the router? Someone with a smilar one can tell you how to set it up correctly so at least basic security is on it.

If you actual read my whole sentence, you’ll see i said once your online, then config/turn on the security.

linksys wrt54g2, I’ve been messing with it all day, and im getting so frustrated.

the default router address is usually 192.168.1.1 for most basic configurations…
You will have to tracert something, the first address that comes up will be the router…
Make sure that you disable any weird antivirus firewalls, and I recommend doing away with software firewalls of any kind. The hardware firewall in the router is plenty unless you really want to check outbound connections originating from your PC.
You shouldn’t have to disable the windows firewall, however I have had to in certain instances.
I turn off all the security on the router, just to test connectivity. If you can get that to work, then setup WEP or WPA.
I have had problems getting WPA to work on older network cards, so I had to setup WEP at some locations.

or just use ipconfig /all and the gateway = your AP

if you’ve got verizon you have to set up the modem to bridge. and then set up the router to PPPoE. and if not that what internet provider do you have? whats actually hapening? details please.

yea,i also found that with verizon the modem they sent me is a “modem/router” i had to set my wireless router with another ip, i just changed the last digit from 1 to 2

I ended up taking it back to exchange for a different one, and that one works perfect. Thanks for all your help :tup:
