# wiring trouble shooting 101 need help

problem no VSS signal. here is what I got so far.
Turn meter on
test meter
this is a old VSS I had laying around from over 3 years ago. all data says the following
> **Is resistance between 190 and 250 ohms?**
> the meter is showing a near short correct? in other words a bad sensor.
this is the VSS I just removed from the car and is about a year old. This also shows the same thing as the last sensor. does this mean I have two bad sensors in my possession?
PCM harness pin 3 and pin 6
again PCM harness pin 3 and pin 6. the other side of the harness is disconnected so shouldn’t the meter show nothing or open circuit?
this is what alldata has to say.
> - Key “OFF”.

> - Measure resistance between test pin 3 at the breakout box and [VSS](http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PRO%7EV126608058%7EC12391%7ER0%7EOD%7EN/0/41746445/56351136/56351148/56351152/34853741/34857029/34857030/101367133) (+) circuit at the VSS vehicle harness connector.
> - Measure resistance between test pin 6 at the breakout box and [VSS](http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PRO%7EV126608058%7EC12391%7ER0%7EOD%7EN/0/41746445/56351136/56351148/56351152/34853741/34857029/34857030/101367133) (-) circuit at the VSS vehicle harness connector.
> - **Is each resistance less than 5.0 ohms?**

same pic from above just with less harry arm and more meter.
I must be reading this meter wrong because i’m seeing about 22ohm right? help me out here

kinda looks like the sensor is bad.
for the wiring test. they are saying to measure the resistance of each wire from the ECM connector to the VSS connector. i dont have a wiring diagram to determine what else might be connected to that circuit to cause what appears to be a 22 ohm resistance across those terminals.

that is what I don’t get. There is nothing inline and nothing connected at the other end unless something is built into the connector which would be odd. here is the diagram for the circuit.

the first thing i would do is get a nice digital multimeter.
