All the collections in the area seem to be customers of ours. Anytime I am in there, people just are sitting around all day. There is training and laws you need to follow which they teach you cuz you can get introuble but some places offer pay and then bonuses if you do good.

Well, then you can certainly make some decent money. As long as you know you have a future elsewhere because of an education, collections isn’t all bad. You can certainly make decent cash there.

As far as being a prick to people… I’ve seen both the biggest assholes and the nicest people on the planet be very successful on the phone. You’ll find what works for you.

also, collections is a pretty big company, with a lot of room to grow.

mostly you’re making calls to the debtors, their relatives, their jobs, their neighbors, etc… people who owe money to the point they are in collections generally don’t make the first move. Beyond that, they generally aren’t in the best positions in life. That’s when you either verbally beat the shit out of them or use some slick charm.
I once convinced a lady to cancel her cable tv and set up payments to me instead, because i told her that a study posted by Harvard concluded that television is the number 1 cause for negative mentality towards life, often leading to debt and depression, not to mention eye cancer. She ended up finding jesus through my words and set up payments. She later got enough money donated to her from her church to pay off the entire $2400.00 Macy’s bill. Her credit report was complete garbage and this Macy’s charge off was easily the LEAST of her financial worries…
Creativity is key, along with the ability to ignore your morals.
Every agency mails out notifications letters to the debtors, which SOMETIMES, they’ll call in and take care of it. Don’t depend on those.
I wouldn’t mind being a bill collector for 1-5 days per month… it’d be a fun getaway.

You can call family and neighbors and leave messages, as long as you don’t tell them you’re calling from a collections agency. Once you tell them you’re trying to get them to pay a bill, you’re breaking the law.

You can also call jobs at any time, unless they have notified you that they are not able to receive personal calls.

I worked at Firstsource Advantage in Amherst on Bryant Woods off the Autobahn, I worked in the IT department so this is my outside take…

You can make a lot of money doing it but I don’t understand how anyone could do it as a long term career. At FSA there was a abundance of hotties, even though it felt like a insult doing level 1 help desk stuff at times it was fun to go out there talk to the hotties.

Pay varies place to place and based on experience, most places have no caps on bonuses so if you are good at it you can make serious bank. There where collectors who with bonuses out earned me and I make a very good salary.
