Meh. I can either

How do I reset my rank back to private second class?  
First you must go to ‘Player info’ in the Xbox Live menu then select ‘Service record’. While in the service record you must hold down both left and right triggers, you will be prompted with a message to reset your rank.

Or leave a non legit Elite status. However I want my old rank back ☹
