So I got this coupon in my latest Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords to Harbor Freight. nick has the 12 ton, has done work. box in those rails and make it nice and sturdy. nicks flexes a bit on stubborn wheel bearings. ---

Nice! Their fail = your win. Now save up to buy an air over hydraulic ram for it. So much nicer than having to hand pump the press, especially if trying to hold an odd object in the thing. I love my 60 ton iron horse/shop press. Invaluable tool in any garage. ---

I can’t even beging to explain how hard it is to rebuild front ends (bushings / balljoints) on a hopper EVERY weekend without one of these. You will definitely know who your friends are by the end of summer 🙂 Anyway, I still can’t believe they fucked up! Do you have any tips for this thing (i’v eused them before when at the dealer so not a complete n00b) or any tricks you use on a regular? ---

agreed with boxersix, those presses are sick, too many uses to list, but, a nice air over hydraulic ram makes using the press less than effortless. ---

Old bearing races, large piston pins, misc blocks of metal, etc. All these little bits car be used as various tooling for jobs where the typical press plates don’t suit the application(IE, like trying to press a thin gear off a transmission shaft w/o a collar). Pressure treated wood is also good as it’s very strong, but deforms under load so when pressing soft gears or bushings it’s good to use it. b) Buy that air/hydraulic ram I mentioned. trust me worth more than every penny spent once it’s in the press. If you get one with a foot valve it’s even better as it frees up both hands. c) Buy a face shield. Not goggles, a full face shield. I’ve had lots of crap come apart before, and when it does it’s typically a bomb. Get one that covers the full face and neck. 20 tons is more than enough to make tempered metal shatter with deadly force. ---

I also already have the full face shield, couldn’t live without it actually. One of the most used tools in my shop! I’ll have to see on the air / hydro ram… maybe I’ll just make an elec / hydraulic one. LOL I already have all that stuff. Saving for my next purchase - I need a plasma cutter!! ---
