Well right now the weather is pretty cloudy, with scattered sunlight.

But yea, major wastegate leak due to lack of valve seat flange (my own
fault for not realizing how it should function). ☹

for now put washers between the actuator and the turbo it will put more preload on it and help you build boost faster

Sasha - Gonad is externally gated.

Gonad - You may also want to consider a Turbosmart 38mm Ultragate. There “Sleeper” series of gates look to be the best gate on the market right now. They can withstand far more heat than a Tial piece.

I suppose it depends on what your ultimate power goal is…

I have no idea why I did this but the gist of it is:

I have a manifold made for 38mm WG
I had a 40mm HKS WG that I bought some time ago (and spent quite a bit).

Not wanting to lose on it, I figure I build an adapter from 38mm to 40mm.

It worked out well. Except I missed one cruicial step. In a factory 40mm
HKS WG kit, there is a flange that includes a ring seat.

So as it stands now, my turbo runs on approximately 75% of exhaust
power with the rest leaking out.

With the layout and all, it’s simply not worth it to re-flange the seat so.

As for power goals, 300rwhp this summer would be nice.
Or whatever 12 15psi gives me. :hs:

Now you know…

O’rly. I obviously don’t want to make another mistake on the exhaust
portion (I’ve already made two - or three; can’t remember.) ☹

But I’ll look into the TS units.

yeah i would agree about the turbosmart units.

i personalyl think tial is very overated and hks is just jdm.

im personally running the 38mm turbosmart on my ka-t and it is extremely consistent.

No no, the adapter itself has no leaks. Apart from the crap ass welding,
the adapter is good. And no problem with those flanges my dad made either.

It has to do with the wastegate itself. The wastegate’s seat’s hole is
larger then the wastegate’s plunger itself.

Look closely at the plunger/face on the wastegate. The plunger’s valve’s
diameter is slightly (25%) smaller then the entire opening.

The 4-bolt flange on the adapter is supposed to have a ‘lip’ that cups into
the wastegate, creating a full 100% seal.

Hope this clears things up. And don’t ask why I like to complicate things. ☹

Note the flange in the foreground with the lip (44mm/50mm unit shown)

what is this? lets see who can give the best ghetto setup idea?

gautam is doing the right thing now and going with a tial 38mm. they aren’t overrated – they are proven. they happen to be produced in the states, so they can be found cheap.

the turbosmart units are made in AU, so they become the prime use there, and they are proven there.

everyone makes mistakes – and gautam made a major one by not putting the valve seat fire ring in cause a lot of exhaust leak to by pass. he’s fixing it properly now by going with a wastegate with a fire ring. that is the ONLY solution to this.
