My first car was a 1980 Pontiac LeMans. Shit brown inside and out. Hide the little bit of rust it had quite well. Hand me down from my dad when I turned 16, had it for 3-4 years before I killed it and bought the Avenger. Stuff I added???..quarts of 5w-30 on a regular basis(blown RMS). Got rid of it when the motor locked up beating the piss out of it on the back roads of Duanesburg where I grew up. I learned how to drive well in that auto shitbox.

I don’t have any pictures, but this one from Wikpedia is a spitting image of my old old car:

> **[8-track cartridge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereo_8)**
>
> The 8-track tape (formally Stereo 8; commonly called eight-track cartridge, eight-track tape, and eight-track) is a magnetic-tape sound recording technology that was popular from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s, when the compact cassette, which pre-dated the 8-track system, surpassed it in popularity for pre-recorded music.
> The format was commonly used in cars and was most popular in the United States and Canada and, to a lesser extent, in the United Kingdom. One advantage of the 8-track tape...

“8-track players became less common in homes and automobiles in the late 1970s. By the time the Compact Disc arrived in 1982–83, the 8-track had greatly diminished in popularity.”

so you are telling me that your 1988 van had an 8-track player when CDs have been out for 5 years and regular cassettes were dominating for at least 10+ years? I find that extremely hard to believe. I was born in 81 and I’ve never seen an 8-track player in a car.
