Before the feds came knocking, and after they knocked …
and then the shell thats being used to rebuild it
whats so special about the car that hes got it all jigged up for the new build and the feds wanted it?
question is… what will happen if i show the feds this thread?
:wstupid:
It’s basically the predecessor to the modern R32. It’s an early 90’s model, it was brought in illegally through Canada. The feds found out and demanded the shell, he gave them a VIN back and that’s about it. IIRC that is. Kevin is a good guy and has a nice VW collection.
This thing’s big news. It’s rare/unique/cool because in 1989 VW built an AWD supercharged Golf, not for sale in the US. They built 5000 of them for homologation purposes for rally racing.

It was a very nice car too. Sux this happened. Learn to play by the rules I guess.
jeller
Kevin also has an AWD golf vr6 and an AWD vr6 turbo Corrado.
ah… i didnt realize it was sc’d and awd.
thats pretty cool
these kids on vwvortex dont realize the vin is written more then just that plate on the windshield
who cares. /thread.
that car is pretty hot.
dont read vortex, it will make your head hurt.
Quoted for truth. There’s a lot of info in the stickied FAQ’s, but if it’s not there don’t bother making a new thread. Before it gets buried 4 pages deep by “Hey check out my wheels” threads, all you get is irrelevant and unintelligent post whoring. Well, in the MKIV forums anyways…
actually;
german cars don’t have a public vin. There is no plate on the dash by the windshield. body panels do not have the vin stamped on them
there is only one place the vin is stamped on a european car, and you can’t see it from outside.
I think that’s a typo. My car has a plate on the dash by the windshield.
So the law is you’d have to turn in every part with a VIN stamped on it or something?
rolling chassis is all they care about … its why you can get away with importing a car thats cut in half for parts … because its not drivable anymore
so het stripped this one for all its parts, and gave them as little as they would accept. since its the part of the car that the title actualy belongs to, it goes down in the books as having been crushed … even though only 10% of the car ever made it into the crusher
im pretty sure he ment cars in germany, and im sure you dont have a car imported from germany like this guy the thread is about
^correct. as the previous sentence was “german cars dont have a public vin” lol.
some cars that were imported as grey market may have a vin there, but it would be put there in the u.s., not from the factory.
you can always tell by the stickers on the drivers side door where the car came from and what its history is
