Bill Gates makes Porche 959 legal in the US!
Strangely enough, it’s true. Bill Gates (geek owner of Microsoft “Evil Empires R’ Us” Software Inc) through some very persistent work with a group of highly skilled porche lovers has managed to get the 1988 Porche 959 legalized in the US as a street legal car!!
Apparently the Federal Gov thought that these cars were too much race car to be driven on the street, but too much street car to be raced. So in short they wouldn’t allow them to be imported into the US at all. Well, thanks to Bill Gates (and several wonderful 959’s that sacrificed themselves in safety tests) it is now legal to bring one into the states. It has to undergo about a $60,000 modernization upgrade (new updated turbos, addition of catalytic converters, etc) to allow it to pass emissions tests and several other federal tests of road readyness before it can be cleared to come into the US, but otherwise it’s completely legal to bring one of these classics into the states now.
And we have Bill Gates to thank for it. Something I never thought I’d hear myself say, but I’m actually thankful to Bill Gates for a change and it’s for something GOOD he did.
How long before Win949? The true turbo Windows. They do need a new numbering/naming scheme.
