I half expected you to interject your thoughts regarding new technology on a car that wasn’t meant for it.
Completely different than changing the geometries of a 2 wheeled vehicle that you regularly go 130 mph on… (it did cross my mind though lol)
You know I love it - nice job Mike!
From what Mike explained to me, these chassis haven’t changed a whole lot over the years. Which is why he was able to do this without any major fab work and really only improve the dynamics of the car.
But with two wheels, better do some research before fucking with that stuff.
Haha, I kid I kid.
I couldn’t agree more when it comes to a motorcycle.
Whatever Will! What color are my calipers???
Anyway, to answer your question…the car is somewhere in the mid/upper 12’s, so not fast, but also not a complete slouch.
Very cool swap!
Gorgeous. Nice touch on the brakes
Nice work!
X…
man, now i wanna do one lol. i put way too much money into my car last winter though lol
IRS is the reason that I drove Thunderbirds when I was a kid, and not mustangs.
It makes for a much better riding car, especially at high speed.
Live axle is like driving my old Roush F150, it would wear out your back just driving the thing to work.
ugh.
There are times I am tempt to stop playing with my miata and buy a fox.
Yours in very nice sir.
ken ill take that from you hahaha
great job! your car is amazingly clean
I love it! what piques my interest is the kits they make for RWD swaps in the focus using the ford 8.8, this leads me to believe those kits could also be used to mount the IRS with very very minor adjustments… HMMMMM
That is some nice work! The results sound even better.
I love IRS swapped foxes and SN95’s!
Black 87-93 hatches are so sexy to me. Awesome swap, glad to see someone making a mustang handle.
i still completely love your car
awesome work
I never completed the tail pipes on this project…until a few weeks ago:tdown:
Here’s what it looked like when I last posted here…stock Cobra pipes without the 3 1/2" extension. Essentially these pipes ended about 12" before the bumper, resulting in an unfinished look, a bit of an awkward sound, and some fumes entering the hatch.
So, in an effort to make pipes that were as close to stock looking I pieced together some PVC pipes since I knew I’d be sourcing pre-bent pieces.
Ordered all tubing from http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Shop-by-Category/304-Stainless-Steel-Mandrel-Bends…a few mandrel bends and a few feet of straights, 304 stainless.
First step was to cut off Cobra piping after the hanger:
Then, after mocking up a few times and making proper alignment marks, welded a 90 degree mandrel to the straight pipe, and hung pipe temporarily. From here the gap would be filled with a 45 degree bend:
More measuring, and the 45 was welded in and the welds ground down:
Installed! Was in a time crunch as I was using a friends garage, so the pipes stayed as-is…from here I will eventually polish them up:) Shitty pic…
Lookin just like a stock Fox body LX solid-axle exhaust…
On the highway at 65mph I was at 85 decibels prior to these pipes…after I dropped down to 77, a noticable and welcomed improvement:)
Here’s what the exhaust sounds like…
