i know this was meant to be sarcastic, but this goes for any laptop…to get the extended warranty…no matter where you buy it. Laptops break, especially now a days where they are more ‘disposable’.
Plus, the ‘no lemon policies’ are fun. I’m on my third laptop in 4 years…i’ve only actually bought 1…in February of '04 (2 1/2 years before i worked at best buy)…
just for fun: first laptop was an hp ze4630us, bought on feb 14, 04, w/ an amd althon xp 2500+, 512mb ddr, 40gb hdd, usb 1.0, wifi, cdrw/dvd rom for 1250, second was exchanged on march 16, 06 - it was a gateway mx7525 w/ an amd 4000+, 1gb ddr, cd/dvdrw, usb2, wireless g, ati x600 w/ 256mb dedicated ram, and the most recent one, a gateway m6750w/ T5450, 3gb ram, 250gb hdd, wireless n, etc, was exchanged on january 11, 08…I havent put out a dime for a computer since the first one…
Thanks for the advice. Went and grabbed this laptop. Best Buy in amherst had a bunch left and even when the sales guy saw the price when I pointed the model out, he said “Wow”. Also had a clearence rack so picked up a 500gb USB drive for $90 too.
Laptop is pretty solid. I like the keyboard and high resolution and it seems fast. Not a fan of Vista and since is DDR3 I can’t put XP on it but I am pretty impressed. Only thing I noticed is that the fan is on 24/7. Not used to it but I don’t know if its a new thing on modern laptops.
And most laptops have the fan on 24/7, just ramp the speed. Its quite poor if the fan turns on at full speed only when it gets hot, then its just random noise. I would prefer a nearly inaudible fan and then a slow ramp when it gets hot over that.
just a heads up if your going to, i would do it in a virtual machine instead… (grap microsofts free virtual machine 07 and google for the guides) you’ll be better off…
