I using WMC right now for my OTA tuner. I don’t use it much (locals news, Bills games) but it seems to work well. I’ve only used the DVR feature once to test if it worked.

Hardware wise I have 3 computers right now.

  1. AMD phenom II X4 965 with 4GB DDR3 and several sata drives totaling around 4TB in storage as my server. Hooked up to my TV downstairs. Win 7 ultimate 64 bit.
  2. Intel Core i3-2100T with 4GB DDR3 and a 320GB drive and nvidia geforce gt430 as my main htpc in the living room. In a silverstone gd05b HTPC case. Win7 Pro 64 bit
  3. Jetway minitop nettop with a 64GB SSD drive, dual core atom processor with ion2 graphics in the bedroom. Win7 Pro 64 bit

When I decide to add another one (like when my daughter is old enough to have a TV in her room) I’d consider the apple TV. More than likely though I’ll just get her a 27" monitor and use that on the computer she already has. It’s an Athlon 2 X4 with 4gb of DDR2 so it’s more than capable of 1080p playback in XBMC.
