amazing car for a daily. Any mods planned?
nice daily spence, is it the tt v6?
It already has the mods I want, chip, big reds, springs & shocks…
It could use a new head unit, wheels, and a detail.
Its no tt, is a i-5 20v turbo, very stout bottom end like the supra.
Its does have canadian roots, originally from toronto, and the guy I bought it from imported it.
Not a bad buy, I was a little concerned about the price but I got it down a bit, he was originally asking 16k for the car which is just ridiculous.
Audis are great in some ways, strange in others
Strange = the head unit is hooked up from the factory to constant power so you have to manually turn it on and off every time you get in the car.
Great = Double galvanized steel body, should be awhile before it rusts to shit
if u want some wheels im trying to get rid of my stock wheels from my a4 they are 16’s and a lil newer if u want something cheap
the headunit constant power is not right, ive driven a a4 from your generation and it didnt have that issue… maybe somebody miswired it?
im going 18s if Im getting new wheels
the headunits not miswired, they come like that from the factory, but changed back switched in later models I think when
whata piece of crap.
post again when u drop an LS1 in that bitch.
do you still have that ranger? is it for sale? if so could you pm me some details?
that is definitely not a factory setup. I just put a pioneer in my A4 from Pilger and it required a bunch of different harnesses to work properly with the factory bose system in the car. I don’t think you have that though.
It has a factory bose system, and I read somewhere that the head units were wired like that, maybe on audiworld, because I didnt know why it was like that

Pretty nice spence, though not as hot as my prizm i use for a daily.
that is indeed the way old audis came from the factory. their way of reminding you to turn off your radio was to set off the factory chime that is used to let you know your lights are on/keys are in the ignition when the door is open and the radio is on. when you install an aftermarket headunit, you lost that feature. so what i did to resolve the issue was this:
my alpine cda 9813s switched lead (red) draws very little current. it is just a signal wire to let it know to turn it off when the car wants it off. the fixed power lead (yellow) it where the headunit draws it’s power from.
my car has a switch to turn off the ABS. the display light is always illuminated when the cars ingnition switch is in the on position. since the switched power lead draws so little, i saw no harm in tapping into that. plus it was near the radio, simplfing the the install.
what i really wanted to do but got too lazy/eager was tap into the power window power lead. on my 91 80 quattro, the windows work after you turn the ignition off until a certain amount of time has past or you open the door. i thought it would be really cool to make it like a modern car, but just couldn’t justify attempting to figure out where i could tap into to make that happen.
edit: nice car BTW. audi 5 cyls are insanely tough. the AAN code you have is IMO the best engine audi ever put into a production car.
