For the price of the motor and headache of the swap I would go 5.0 before that…
I am just going to build up a 1.6 or leave it na with a 1.8.
I think a new front main seal / timing belt / valve cover gasket and the current motor would be good to go.
Just when you hammer a 15 year old motor like I do any weak point fails…

also there is some low mileage bp engines on ebay for $400
I have a non molested 1.6 for $250. 100k miles and runs strong.
I live 5 min from newers auto wreckers. They are ass holes and they lie about the milage on there motors. I have a buddy that worked there for a little while and quit when he found out how bullshit that place is. Just call them up and ask them for something, you’ll see. Cocky little bastards.
