its not always about the width of the tire, its the compound, and how much of it meets the road. a true 10inch section width tire will fit fine on a 9inch wheel with no draw backs. youre just a panzy and wont run a good compound because youre afraid to drive it. a 28x10.5" tire is in the 7s and 8s. no need for a 12inch mediocre street tire that still wont hook.

They are 17s so you will have more sidewall. This gives you more room to play with width. I have 275/35ZR18s on a 9"
