7/9/05 Highbanks Celtic Gathering

Celtic Heritage comes to the Genesee Valley Region

Letchworth State Park, renowned as one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S., serves as the backdrop for the annual Highbanks Celtic Gathering. Come enjoy the spirit and traditions of the Celtic people in this beautiful setting! Relish in the skirl of the pipes, the thunder of the drums, and the majesty of the Massed Pipe Bands on the crest of the Genesee River Gorge.

Attractions and Entertainers

This year features Opening Ceremonies with the Parade of Tartans and Presentation of the Clans, Massed Pipe Bands, the Highbanks Invitational Highland Games and Heavy Athletics (including the popular Caber Toss), the Genesee Highland Dancers, a Children’s Mock Highland Games, Solo Piping and Drumming Competitions, Pipe Band Competitions, and Celtic Stage Bands.

Celtic Crafters, Clans & Food

Stroll down Clan Way and discover your Celtic heritage. Meet representatives from over twenty clans sharing their traditions of family, pride and heritage. Celtic Crafters from around the region present a variety of wares including Celtic music recordings, traditional clothing and fine jewelry. And no trip in the Gathering is complete without a taste of Scottish meat pie, sausage roll or Forfar bridies.

Highland Athletics

Marvel as Highland Athletes from across the Northeast and Canada test their mettle in the ancient sports of the Scottish Highlands. The competition includes several events. The Sheaf Toss - representing sacks of grain tossed overhead into the barn. The Stone Throw - a test of strength and precision. The Caber Toss - a test of balance and strength with a log as large as a telephone pole. Try your skills during the exhibition!
