70 mph smart car test crash

it’s amazing.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6605730767077503480

but it took forever to get to 70 lol … not bad though

except for the fact that the steering wheel is basickly against the drivers gut after the wreck… that driver would be dead … regardless of weather or not the doors still open

or he’d just have a dead gut.

weren’t there 2 dummies in there?

nope, looks like an empty car. maybe they were doing a test just to see what would happen to the frame?

doesnt look at all like its an actual safety oriented crash test … looks more like its for a car / news show … its safety propaganda

what looks like a dummy flopping around during the side viw of the wreck is the drivers seat snapping forward and bouncing off the steering wheel

its from an episode of Top Gear or 5th gear, one of those british car shows.

the guy neer mentioned that would would without a doubt be dead, there is just no surviving a accdent like that with no crumpal zone built into the vehicle to lessen the impact.

Show is 5th gear… Tiff Needell.

And it is nice to see that the overall structure of the car held up to a 70mph head on collision. However, if 1 ton of car has enough force to move a 20 ton barrier, just imagine the forces that would act upon the human body. Basically, if an accident like that were to occur, the only positive would be for the paramedics: Instead of numerous pieces to pickup, they would just have to remove the body from the car. :bloated:

holy shit!

niceeee

i expected worse to happen. good job on making the car stay in kinda one piece. but like others said a person would not stand a chance inside that thing

pretty crazy

yeah but how often are people crashing head on at 70?..i’d like to see only 50 since thats about the norm.

doesnt matter … crashing into a fixed barriar simulates 2 vehicals of the same weight and design crashing into each other while traveling the same speed (1500 lbs against 1500 lbs)

but lets say we bring the speed down to 5 like you asked … but instead of crashing it into a wall, we drive it into your average family sedan / minivan / suv … now your pitting a 1500lb car with almost no crumple zones against a 3000 lb car … bad badb idea

THAT 50 mph wreck is gonna look worse then the 70 mph wreck in the video

It certainly fared better than I expected it to…

here is a example, your driving down the 400 fall asleep and veer off the road and hit a bridge that bridge isn’t going anywhere

Me too.

i guess what i’m trying to say is that i would rather see it hitting another vehicle sine a brick wall has no crumple zone. true it somewhat simulates it hitting itself but it also shows only damage on one side of the equation.

Yeah, suprisingly well built.
