I went to college at the Cleveland Institute of Art studying Industrial Design, where I took 3 years of Automotive Design Studio. I’m now working at Fisher Price as a toy/product Designer…but when I get some down time I like to regress back to my love of drawing cars. A friend of a friend has been putting together his portfolio to try and get accepted into the program, so I’ve offered to mentor him and help pimp his portfolio…something I had longed for when I was a young student.
Anyway, he sent me this photo the other day of a car he rendered up. It was a pretty good start for someone who is just getting started…speaking from experience of what I saw from myself and my classmates when we began learning…yet, it had many areas to correct.
Using the Alias Sketchbook Program…which is similar to how Photoshop works with layers, but offers more controlled pen/pencil/brush/paint tools…I overlayed his drawing to correct on the errors and offer up simple techniques to bring some excitement to a 10 minute sketch.
…and the ‘final’. Mind you this was done while at work so I didn’t have a ton of time to invest. Time permitting…I may go further on this and get into rendering techniques.
Not sure if there’s any interest in this sort of thing…but I guess it’s my attempt to bring something unique to this Automotive based website…so enjoy:)
