Picked up a 52 buick special the other day. price was right & my dad, brother & i have a soft spot for old gm cars. it’s got the 263 straight 8 in it. runs like a champ, took it for a spin around the yard and she pulls hard. the guy we bought it from already rebuilt the brakes, ran new brake lines & fuel lines, installed a new thermostat, new front grill, new fuel pump & spark plugs. the car is very clean, needs very little to get her on the road. our goal is to have it full road worthy for the spring so my brother can take it to his prom & then have it for his senior year b/c how many 17 year olds drive a classic buick.
We assume this was a cop car due to the paint scheme & spot light mounted on the door. who knows, gotta do some research. overall we’re pretty happy with the purchase & after tearing up the grass with it today, we’re really excited to get it on the road. here’s a few pics we took today, my brother went a tad over kill on the angle of the pics but it’s alright.
the buick’s been kind of forgotten about since we put her away for the winter back in december. so a few weeks ago my old man & i dug her out & pulled her up to the house. before the winter, my dad, brothe & i got the whole front clip off the car, down to bare metal & primed. since we’ve started working on her again, we’ve stripped 1 1/4 panel & primed it (still have to do body worked, primed to prevent rusting w/ all this rain lately), stripped & primed the trunk & also stripped the roof down to bare metal, fixed all the dents in it & shot it with primer. here’s a few pics of what we’ve got so far. (fenders are in the garage for time being)
you can kinda see where the wire wheel ate some bondo. new metal soon
hood’s set, right front door is stripping itself pratically w/ how thin the paint is.
the hub caps that came on the car back in 52. still in great shape & will look sweet w/ the black paint job & coker white walls that are in store.
yeah definitely when it’s done i’d love to cruise this thing w/ some other classics, especially gm’s
I gotta say, it’s a nice car. Thing i love about it is everything you can work on easily by yourself unlike modern day cars. Almost every component is accessible w/ simple hand tools. It’s great.
sounds good. And it is awesome. I was looking around for parts over the last few days, and the fact that stuff is affordable and available blows my mind…what plans do you have for the Buick?
plans are just get the body looking good, new fuel tank & lines, clean the carb, get the exhaust fixed & get some coker white walls & drive her around on nice days. not a rare car worth a ton of money so my dad & i just want it to look good & be drivable.
