so far between the top and the 1 side…i have about 15 solid hours of work into this thing…its worth it though…all to be different lol.

Thats going to look sweet. Polishing is such a huge pain in the ass. Did a Yamaha R6 frame once… wanted to kill myself halfway into it.
tell me about it…this thing was a bitch. its a VERY rough surface to start with. I was ready to kill myself last night…but now the payoff is kicking in…so i’m motivated to finish

Whats the polishing process like? I don’t know how to do it.
Can you give a simple DIY?
Its simple…just very VERY time consuming…i wasnt 10 minutes into this project when i didnt want to do it anymore…but it was too late…lol…
For this…i hit it with like 100 grit…just to get it somewhat smooth and past all the bumps…anything coarser leaves gouges that are hard to get out…then you work up…200 grit, then 400, 600, 800 then 1000…and finally wet sand with 2000 grit. Then i took a buffing wheel on my drill…loaded it up with a cleaning/scratch removing compound…worked it in and buffed that out…then on another wheel…i repeated the process with a high polish finishing compound. thats it.
some people use every level of grit out there…i just used what i had laying around from other projects and it worked in my case.

Cool man! I have to polish something up to match my new LT’s!
practice on something first though…unless your a brave soul. lol. btw, Lowe’s has a decent selection of sandpapers and such…i also just tried their compunds tonight and they work well!
not bad if you’re into polished manis
are you going to treat/seal the finish? hate to see all that work look bad in a few months
i hope you went 1000 to 1500 to 2000. It deff gets rid of some small scratches and in the long run will be quicker.
skipped the 1500 because of the compound i was using…plus i didnt have any. worked fine in my case.
I may use zoop seal on it…but i dunno…i wont clear it…and trust me…it will never look like crap after a few months…i keep it cleaner under the hood more than the car itself i think lol.
and yes, im all about the bling too…lol.
this is a before picture…its been that clean for the 5 years ive had the car lol.
and this is close to what it will look like when i get the aftercooler and manifold on…
gonna look so good
Done! Well, just about anyway…its not 100% perfect…but i think it came out well. Still have to do a light buff. Got the runners and everything else painted black…
Still gotta put the gaskets in and all the bolts on the side…but i will wait a couple days for everything to dry…also threw on my new accufab throttle body to see how it looked.
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Looks hottttt
polished looks way better then chrome. It has some color to it… unlike chrome which is just a fuckin mirror
Nice polishing. Wanna do my intake manifold? I hear it takes like 8 hrs, eww.
well, got the P51 installed minus a few loose ends to tie up…now to finish the aftercooler install, and clean this pigsty of a car!
