Looking into picking up a car thats not on the road and bringing it about 10miles. Anyone able to tow it or know of a cheap place that will do it?
Car is located in the Wheatfield area.
Thanks
PS-I havent looked into tow straps yet. I believe they are cheap but is that safe/legal? I want to say yea but when ever I see it, it looks sketchy…never done this before
10 miles is very do-able with a tow-strap and proper towing vehicle.
As long as the vehicle being towed has functional brakes/steering, the tow-strap method works fine; keep to the side of the road with flashers and take it slow. Done it multiple times before; just have to be vigilant and know the car being towed can’t stop fast (no power brakes), or turn easily.
I pulled the Lotus with straps 3 miles home when the oil lines blew. Just take it slow, it will be fine as long as you keep the line tight. The car in the back should do most of the braking. We passed a cop with no issues.
The car starts runs and drives fine. I guess I could strap it with it running but in neutral. This way power brakes and steering would still be present
My old college roommate and I towed my then girlfriends broken down Ford Tempo from just outside Elmira all the way to North Buffalo using a tow strap with a 2 door Geo Tracker. In a rain storm no less. 390 over to Batavia/Rt5 since we didn’t think they’d let us on the 90.
I was much dumber when I was younger. That said I wouldn’t hesitate to do a 10 mile tow with a strap with pretty much anything as the tow vehicle so long as the car being towed had brakes.
