I just want to add that there are -a lot- of private citizens that have made their own electric cars that get much better millage then anything a “car company” can make. The oil companys aren’t going to just say “Oh sure, we dont mind if you use a produce we cant/dont supply, we’re sick of making billions of dollars a day.” Its not that the “car companies” cant make a successful electric car, its that they wont.

Yeah, I’m sure all those home built electric cars with the driver sitting on a plywood box full of batteries with another half ton of acid right behind him barely bolted down meet all the federal crash standards that the big companies have to abide by. And I’m sure that home built electric car is reliable enough to be backed by a 5+ year warranty like most manufactures offer on their powertrains.
