Best out-of-the-box computer

I just want a really powerful “professional” computer…I could give a shit about running the latest MMORPG or FPS

I do like running Quark, PS, Fireworks, Dreamweaver & flash all at the same time though (that eats up about a gig of RAM on a slow day)

I’d like to transfer all my shit off most of my drives onto the new computer…

I also don’t need a new system ASAP, so if there’s some new crazy technology coming out soon I’ll wait

yeah if doing SLI both cards have to be matched, but the newer dual core cards are essentially SLI built into 1 card.

lol i agree with the india statement also, dell has great cust service, but sometimes its hard to understand them.

and dont forget that cyber system has onboard sound, as the dell has the top of the line soundblaster XFi series.

you can get a nice solid state HDD if u want cutting edge, but that would cost you more than the system would. Worth it for instant access tho

whats is your current/ old setup?

mobo? cpu? ram?

This is annoying now I want to go build a new computer

3.2 P4…2GB ram…ATi 9200 (I think), mobo I have no idea

I dunno…it’s kinda sloooow and my vid card wont run Vista

I got the 2nd vid card b/c I’ll prolly run my 19" Dell LCD as well

lol holy shit…I love watching the price on these things fall 6 months down the line.

lol.

that set up is fine dude.

lol Joe I want your old computer

Screw the computer! I want his job! Who has a budget of $5000 when buying a new computer?!?!

What do you do anyways, Joe?

PS. That dell seems pretty nice. What are you doing with all of your old drives? I doubt there will be room in the Dell case to put them all in as extras… and Dell likes to make their power supplies just enough for whats in there, and maybe a little more.

Since I’m not allowed to Sell my knowledge, I’ll offer you my assistance for free if you need advice or whatnot. Just PM me or something if you’re lost.

someone with 0% for 24 mo  Plus if I really try I could get work to pick up at least 1/2 the tab

What’s this new chip set that’s coming out in 3 mo?

I’m really in no rush…would it be smarter to just wait until vista is released?

AM2 is released now

AM2 just came out last month, but I never like to buy “new” technology until the bugs/kinks have come out and the motherboards are on at least version 2

Plus, my favorite motherboard company, DFI, hasn’t released an AM2 board yet… so… until then, I’m waiting.

But, its the newest socket with new chipset architectures and its supposed to perform very very well

I’d wait for Vista to be released, and have its final specs. Its in constant change, and wont be here until 2007… they say…

PLUS: Vista has HD support. No computer monitor today has that option. And lately, I’ve seen the quality of all the LCDs go up, and the prices go down. Next year, I think you’ll be shocked at what you can get that has the full support of Vista, as companies rush to build components to work along with it! It just doesn’t exist yet.

If you want, just upgrade your video card now to something nice. Spend a few bucks on just that.

Do you have AGP or does your motherboard support PCI-E ?

Sadly enough, I’ve always been a HUGE AMD fan, but looking at comparisons to Intels new Conroe processors, compared to AMDs top dogs… Intel is winning by 15% on all benchmarks for the same price. :frowning:

couldnt agree more… your current setup is decent. Get a nicer vid card and stick with it until vista is released. THEN go for a newer  (plus by then, you’ll see some directx 10 cards… no real sense in going with a dx9 card towards the end of its life cycle IMO)
