For those who care and/or have not seen, seems like amongst the criticism of the new 2012 Civic, Honda is trying something else.
There’s word yet on whether or not the shells come with a VIN, of course.
This would be imporant
I love this idea.
Do any other manufactures do this? It’s a pretty cool idea.
Pretty cool idea! Hopefully it comes with a VIN incase someone wants to also hit the roads
Id only buy it if it came with those sweet LEDs
I’m guessing they won’t have VIN’s, due to insurance/liability issues on Honda’s end…I mean, how can they sell a shell of a car that’s road legal?
I know ford has done it with mustangs for a while now
honda did this in japan with the integra chassis
I’d bet that there is no VIN, there’s no safety or emissions stuff, so I doubt that it would be allowed even if honda wanted to.
no vin, i think these are to build spec. racecars, the ford BIW didn’t have vin’s either
Might be able to qualify it as “homemade” since you’re assembling it yourself. Pretty sure that is how Ariel Atom owners get their cars Titled/registered.
I would like to see someone build this with a S2000 AP1 motor etc. so it could be RWD
I REALLY like the brake ducts!
Would certainly be cool, but it would require a lot of customization aside from just throwing parts at it. Engine mounts, trans tunnel, rear subframe/diff mounting, wheel hubs, etc…
GM and Ford have been doing this for years. I think BMW might do it as well, super different.
New Camaro $7K no vin
For Mustang in white $6K
Challenger in white $6K
But who wants a RWD race car?
Sounds more ideal for collision shops to purchase these shells to repair wrecked vehicles than buliding a track car out of them.
Awesome idea but I can only see these being used by professional sponsored teams or a rich enthusiast. Too bad you can’t actually save money by building an entire vehicle yourself.
IDK… buy wrecked car, buy shell, take important parts off wrecked car, combine with aftermarket parts = probably less than modding a clean example of that car…
Can you imagine the labor involved in switching EVERYTHING. Lol.
Just an example of how little of Honda’s factory components are needed to compete in SCCA World Challenge and the Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Which goes to show how much the teams put into cars. Definitely little reason to give Honda an attaboy.
If you want to brag about new production car racing do it in Showroom Stock or Touring where they leave the interior in, leave the motor 100% stock, suspension spring rates stock, and the car performance is factory.
I wonder what the process is to order any of these cars?
and I would still kick your ass!
