with all these home buy threads i figure i’d join in.
my wife has more pics buried in a camera somewhere but here is the outside in its current state:
80’ x 150’ lot and only a block and a half away from our current place so the kids stay in the same school.
one of the positive / negatives about the property is that there is a road allowance adjacent to it for a road that was never built. It essentially extends the property another 33’ but we are going to have to work with the city to get a right of way allowance so that we can do fences, paving etc. etc.
it’s a 5 bedroom joint with a double attached garage. the structure is great but we are gutting the kitchen and all the bathrooms before moving in. spent the day yesterday being bored while the wife and mother in law picked all the finishes. The mother in law is moving in with us in a basement suite.
no we got it without it ever being listed comfortably under $600k. the home 2 doors down we looked at last year listed at $699k but the research we did showed it sold for down near $600k anyhow.
mostly had to do with there only being a dozen or fewer lots in the school catchment for our kids that were going to work for us, this being one of them. it’s also on a very quiet court lot with big mature trees and established neighbours. probably the best street / neighbourhood in the whole of the east hamilton mountain which was a big trigger for us.
 Canadian real estate prices are out of this world to me but I’ve only lived in Buffalo. What is the property tax situation like? Does Canada tax property similarly to goods? Meaning in the US we have a State, county, (town/village if applicable) and school. How does Canada/Ontario levy property tax?
