DJ HERO

Bump, any other feedback on DJ Hero?

X…

I played it at Best Buy.

It seemed to be the same theme as the other Hero games. If you like those, and don’t get bored of the same theme, and like this style of music, you should like it.

It is very easy on easy, but then again, so was GH.

Music is pretty interesting from what I sampled. I didn’t get in to the more complex stuff though. Seemed like a decent time waster when you have friends over to me… kind of like playing single player GH though since I don’t think you can multiplayer it?

I tried this at a friend’s house a few weeks back. Was pretty fun, especially while drinking. I personally don’t like guitar hero so I played the DJ portion and he used a guitar in multi-player. For the most part, good music, and a solid ramp up in difficulty.

Oh cool, didn’t know you could do that.

That makes it sound appealing, especially for $100 or so bucks.

trying to compare the game to real DJing is silly

it’s fun, it emulates the whole scratching thing in a really fun way but it has nothing to do with real DJing in real life, at all.

that shouldn’t take away from the game, however. i don’t own it, but it’s cool and fun. a lot of good DJs were asked for their opinions on the game during its development, even. and while it has nothing to do with most of the basic fundamentals of real DJing, it does emulate turntablism in a pretty fun way that’s completely unrealistic yet entertaining.

this is no different then playing an arcade racing game and comparing it to running the nurburgring. you don’t bitch because BURNOUT 3 doesn’t have a realistic feeling clutch…it’s not a DJing simulation…just an arcade game.

on that note, it’s really cool that a game like this, while i am under the impression it’s a failure from a $$$ perspective, is still fun and great because the concept and artistry in DJing is completely overlooked in the US mainstream culture, even though it’s impact on pop culture is incredibly significant. while it’s kind of strange to say it up front…a silly arcade game opens up the average joe a little bit more to the DJ culture and a percentage of the kids who asked for it this x-mas, might ask for a set of turntables next. i can appreciate that. 90 percent of people know what a good guitarist/drummer/vocalist/etc sounds like - but wouldn’t know the first thing about judging a DJ for his skill. just something to think about!

are you serious?

damn, Guitar Hero made me a Rock and Roll HoF nominee, you saying this won’t make me a DJ? Fuck… I’m out.

Your a complete idiot and no nothing of djing. Vinyl is long gone, and it will always be that way from now on. Cds are even on the way out, with the introduction of the cdj2000 pioneer was going to try and make dvs unnecessary as well. Most people use cdjs as midi controllers anyway as software is so much more powerful than hardware. the only thing vinyl is useful/cool for anymore is scratching. Just some people cant seem to get over the whole vinyl thing.

but arnt you like 35, why are you playing little kids games

to each their own

vinyl and CDJs both have distinct advantages

that being said only reason i would ever use CDJs would be in an event i would have to worry about skipping more then usual. ie festival shows with dancers on stage, a cruise ship etc.

sometimes 1200s can piss me off, the other night when i played the stupid club decks had a bad connection in the tonearm totally fucking my serato up for the first 5 mins of my set. sucks coming into shit hard just to be taking the cartridge off and trying to clean the tonearm out 2 mins later when everyones waiting for you to do something cool. oh well.

But what kind of music do you play. I’m not bashing vinyl there are just some people who are so against everything else. I play mainly prog house making vinyl unnessary for me. Trying to find the songs would be a nightmare. I just go on beatport purchase it and rip it to my cd. But I have recently got ride of my cdjs as well felt like they were holding me back. I am all software now and I’m just trying to decide on a good midi because I use different dvs for multiple things

lets make an official dj thread for us few dudes that spin to talk about the scene and shit

shits weak

dude dont kid me man, i spin/span for your guys for like 4 hours straight and thats before my current setup

spun? lol yo i kid you aight

i’m on serato and i’m def not against anything else i’d just never be able to do what i do on CDs easily without sounding weird. at least for my main club set.

i play everything. last week i played the social in buffalo and decided to play 80 percent rap just because thats what people were feeling. i’m going to montreal for NYE and i think that’s going to be heavy on big room house. then LA on the 6th, doing the whole top40 bottle service thing, then some more relaxed house the night after at the Standard hotel, night after that getting it in on some party shit for a street wear trade show afterparty, then cinespace where it’s gonna be electro house mayhem…

so yeah, i play a lot of different genres.

that’s cool that you don’t pigeon hole yourself, so your using serato with the time code, that’s pretty legit, i kinda thought about a similar setup.

But like i said im undecided on what style midi/cdjs/mixer i want to purchase

ya serato w timecode

i’d just try a ton of different setups and see what u like
