Does a different shift knob actually make a difference?

Like does it make it feel more comfortable to shift or what, I recently tried out a MOMO one for a day and went back to my stock leather ball and didnt enjoy the aftermarket one too much. Like Ive seen ppl have those cylindrical tube shaped ones, do those make any difference in comfort?

i’ve gone from stock, to that cylinder to a leather Momo in one car and from the ball to my Greddy in the Silvia.

get something you like the feel of. the weight does play a factor in shift feel as well. i should also mention anything metal gets real hot in the summer. hotter than leather.

they look sexy.

razo!

I’ve been through a couple of shift knobs, and I still like the feel of the stock knob. Its just heavy, and you can feel everything better. Man-o-man that didn’t sound good. lol.

My BIG momo one is VERY comfortable way better than a sweating hand on a ball. Plus mine is suede and very soft… :E

I have one of those tall skinny Razo metal ones, and I’m getting a new “Type-R” style one in the mail soon that is heavier and rounder, I think it will just help shifting smoother and give a better grip than a tall skinny one.

But then again, it won’t make a huge difference in the long run, its about what feels better to you, and about looks.

I have a B&M short shifter w/ stock knob, and it feels better than anything else I’ve driven with. Very precise shifts!

I put in a nismo solid shifter and a titanium shift knob. . .Good throw and feel. . .all’s I need now is a shift boot …

As for the heat, yeah it holds a LOT more than the factory leather one

I’m using a Sparco Road shift knob with a B&M short shifter, it feels ok I guess, but I really havent tried anything else other than the stock 240 leather knob.

I have a B&m short shifter and a Metal ITR Style knob and i love it, its very presice.

does weight really play a factor? I mean the difference must be a few grams between different models, there isn’t much material there! It seems to me that the position the shift knob is in, like if it’s a little further forward or back from stock, or if it’s a little shorter or taller, would play more of a factor then anything else. that and just comfort.

If you can find a wieghted shift knob you will actually have a more positive shifter engagement. It might sound a little strange but companies like skunk2 actually make heavy shift knobs on purpose. Something to think about, but at the same time most people are more worried about looks and its not likley to lower your times at all. Its just a feel thing. My fastline performance race shifter in the race car actually came with about 3 pages of instructions and there was a whole page on choosing the correct shift knob believe it or not.

I got one from aspec products… i love it just a titatnium ball shift knob. And i noticed a huge difference it really made shifting easier

The one that looks like a ball by MOMO is very comfortable and fits your hand perfectly I found.

i love my trust knob in my silvia, except for when it gets really hot/cold

it does make a difference… my ractive shift knob was so hot in the summer i had to put a sock over it so i could touch it. same with winter, way too cold.
