Engine Blown in 1990 Eclipse, where and how much to get it replaced

Well the engine in my 90’ Eclipse, looks like it threw a rod. How much and I looking at to get it replaced? How much would just an engine cost? Any help is appreciated.

call around to some junkyards

did you try car-part.com?

I haven’t tried car parts, I will and call around to some junkyards to prolly thanks

What motor is it?
4g63?
curt bown had a longblock pretty cheap

Honestly I don’t know, I don’t know much about imports. It’s a 1990 GS-T FWD 5 speed manual. Also the car-parts website was pretty expensive, the cheapest motor was 850$ with no turbo ro anything (not that I need the turbo I can switch it over, but that is way to much).

3 engines were in the 1gs, 1.8 (4g61) 2.0 (4G63) and 2.0 (4g63t). 90 GS-T is a 6bolt 4g63T. good luck. you have to get a 90-92.5 2.0 out of a laser, talon or eclipse. 6bolts are expensive. i paid 1700 for my motor and trans

If I have to spend over 1k I prolly will jsut scrap the car take the loss and wait and buy something newer

well if your going to do that sell me it

850$ is kinda cheap, anymore those things are becoming really hard to find.

actually i guess it doesnt matter what motor you put in it, your a 5 speed it doesnt matter. i know there is an adaptor if its automatic…so really any 89-98 4g63 will work

Could I just stick an NA 1.8li into it? I have about 3k total into it including the car, insurance, brakes I had fixed, and the extra parts I bought with it (racing seats turbo timer etc etc). Also aren’t the 2nd gen engines prone to crankwalk? One of the reasons I bought a 1g instead of a 2 besides the price.

850 isnt bad for a 1g 6 bolt long block. but didnt you say you threw a rod? if the head is still good reuse that and just get a shortblock. save you some money. a 1.8l wont work unless you get the ecu and more than likely the harness along with it, but try not to do that the 1.8 motor is absolute garbage.

I am thinking about getting a shortblock, found a place to get one for 300$

time to learn…
