Engine Oil Coolers.....

I’m searching for the smallest, yet most efficient engine oil cooler possible. it needs to be thin to fit in front of my radiator. i ran into two styles im leaning towards, and im wondering which extracts more heat…:

stacked bar and plate:

or

coiled tubular:

i’d perfer to avoid fan cooled to save a couple inches depth

note: these aren’t necessarily the ones i’d use, just an example of the cooler type

anyone know of any with a thermostat, thats not expensive?

Bar and plate!

i had both, but the bar and plate worked better. just my 2 cents.

thats what i figured, thanks

Im sure the difference between the two isn’t that much but look to see if the manufacturer posted the thermal efficiency rating. If its that important and you can’t find it online, call them and ask.

Definitely bar/plate, some of the better oil filter adapters have thermostatic valves built in to regulate oil flow

^^ I’ve had the best experience with those also

The setrab unit is amazing. I have used it on a few cars. It will drop the temps in no time if you use the thermostat. if you don’t it will never heatup.

good news, thanks. the turbo and/or summer heat has been cookin my oil. i start to lose oil psi even with my 20/50. this should fix that problem

Obviously make sure that it is mounted where it will see air flow and not just strapped to a frame rail or something.

BAr and Plate … without a doubt … ALL of my AOD cars run one for the trans … only way to keep them alive… I did a test about 4 years ago on one of my stangs … and the stacked plate setup was 30* cooler than a shitty tube setup … this was tested in bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of summer

The tube designs are poor as hell, if you want cooling stacked plate is where its at…

And yes, the setrab one you have pictured is a dam good little cooler…
