1970’s enduro bikes = pain
My suggestion is spend a little more and get a mid 90’s XR,KDX,RMX or WR.

ya…70s suspension technology isnt exactly great. but i’d rip around an old bike just for fun.
the bike only needs a battery and i’d get it for a day’s pay… lol. i just want a bike i can ride to save fuel, that i can occasionally take off road.
i’m still looking for something in the 80-100 xr range for amanda
If it's cheap enough, go for it!

I have an 81 IT465. It is a monster!
when you say enduro, do you mean street legal?
Nope, only off road. Street legal IMO would be dual-sport or street-trail. As for your bike I bet it’s a handful, gobs of power, as most of those old big bore air cooled two strokes were. I used to have an 84 KTM 495MXC a couple of years back, it practically vibrated your teeth out
old school 2 strokes r crazy. they r so tempramental and weird, but they r alot of fun.
The enduro I’m looking at has turn signals & a plate holder…
it’s not called enduro anymore, it’s called dual-purpose or street and trail for the noobs
since the one i’m looking at is thirty years old, wouldn’t it still be an enduro?
I have a feeling it’s just a model name, such as a Kawasaki KX, but they didn’t use a two letter model name for that particular model. Is it a Yamaha by chance?
i always thought street and trail bikes (w/ plates and signals) were reffered to as dual-sports and enduro bikes were dirt only but had lights and stuff…i might be wrong, because i dont really ride or pay attention to those things.
x2
that most bikes that were popular for riding an enduro event had headlights and brakelights, but no turnsignals or mirrors. Most of the manufacturers at some point and time made bikes that had just the headlight and brakelight. The IT series for sure and many others, both 2 and 4 stroke had headlight and brakelight. The XR400 was popular to convert to streetlegal because it already had the headlight and brakelight. I know a guy that rides a GasGas 2 stroke 250 that has a headlight and tailight. He converted it to streetlegal.
I think the Honda CRF250 and 450X models both have head and brakelights. Certain KTMs also have them from the factory.
Back in the day when enduro riding was popular, many people would show up with MX bikes or whatever was available. Enduros can be several hundred miles, such as the Baja 500 or 1000. Since the events would run way into the night the headlight and brakelight became mandatory safety items. All sorts of things were adapted to the bikes and the big manufacturers lost business to the aftermarket industry, so they just made the bikes with headlights and brakelights.
Chances are if the bike you are looking at has or has evidence of a plate holder, mirrors, and turn signals it is an old street and trail. They are now called dual sports or DPs as Eurodad stated. Yamaha had the DT and XT lines and Honda called theirs XLXXX or XRXXXL. I don’t know about the older vintage Kawis or Zukis.
suzuki dual sports were DRs and kawi’s were KLRs…ask bics about KLRs :kekegay:
Were the older (70s and 80s) zukis and kawis called DRs and KLRs? I cant remember.
What about the KLR? i am curious… Some bad experience with the bike?
there mightve been some different models before the DRs and KLRs, like i said i dont follow them much those r just the ones i know. no, bics had a 93(?) KLR250 it was actually a nice bike. it was just funny cause at the time i had just bought a year old YZ125 and then he came home w/ the KLR that he got off his uncle for free, so we used to cut on him and ask if he was gonna take it to the mx track…lol.
Ya, my buddys do the same thing with me on my XR600. My bike is just too heavy and the suspension is super plush and won’t take big impacts.
Did you sell the XR600?
