For the Nitrous folks

heh… never seen this before personally, pretty damn good idea actually

how much does that beast weigh? and good luck hiding it

it’s just a Peltier pad mounted to the bottle with a heatsink and fan… they’re just using the enclosure to even out the temps.

I believe there is another heater/cooler with the same technology out there and not the enclosure… not sure who makes it though.

Probably cost ya $200 to make one yourself if you know how to program a PIC Micro to control it…

Why the hell would you want to cool the bottle… it is never that hot outside, and a pressure-static cooler should not over pressurize the bottle. And if it does end up over the pressure - that’s what the purge is for…

My bottle, while in the car, parked during the day, has reached 1200 psi:D

The make bottle heater/cooler already. That would just be adding dumb weight. Like was already said you never get the bottle that hot, and if the pressure is to high you can just bleed it off.

people that live in the south to.
I,ve seen a bottle get to 2K+ then pop the disc at a summer carshow last year here.

it doesnt seem that it would weigh that much… maybe 20-30 lbs max I’d think.

but yeah, for folks in Az., Fl, Ca, ect would probably need a bottle warmer/cooler combo more so than in buffalo ny. Plus it beats wasting nitrous by purging the system

or completely emptying the bottle if the pressure cap blows…

It’ll take a lot of nitrous being purged to offset the price difference…

psi caps blowoff @ ~3k i thought?

in any case, it does take alot to get the bottle that high. Quite a few hours in the sun, as in all day…

But what a mean (and lean) shot that would be!

for 465.82 i think i’ll stick with just a heater. besides if you have that much juice in the bottle your not racing enough.

I’ve been using one for about 6 months. It weighs 14 lbs since its hollow. But as we all know, air is a great insulator.

People in warm climates have to fight high temps, so cooling the bottle in the summer is VERY common. Seal up a car in the summer, even in NY, and the bottle temp can get above the sweet spot. Remember, when it comes to bottle pressure, more isn’t better. Just right is just right. Typically 900-950 psi is the desired bottle pressure for most racers. Some run a little higher if they are limited on jet or line size in order to shove more nitrous thru the system.

I did some cost calculations the unit can pay for itself in about a season if you race a bunch and typically purge a lot. So the high initial price does give you a payback. Nitrous is about $4.00/pound and a typical 50 psi purge uses about a pound. So that’s $4.00. If you make 100 runs a year, that’s $400. Lots of people make 200-300 runs a year if they are die-hard racers.

NX’s Fire and Ice isn’t enclosed, so the bottle loses/gaines heat a lot faster. It also pulls a bunch of amps and will zap your battery quickly. I hooked a multimeter to mine and it pulls right at 5 amp when running. Blanket heaters and the Fire and Ice pull about 25 amps!

Its a good product for the serious nitrous user or those who love to have the latest technology.

Hope this helps.

Guys, my memory was failing yesterday. The Nitrousaurus-X weighs right at 11.5 pounds.

^^ WHAT? What the hell kind of purge do you do to blow a pound of spray?
