That year would have been a 3.1 - the 3.4 was a DOHC version at the time.
Its the 3.1 motor…which is the good motor for them yrs.

Free bump - FWIW - the 3.8 came with the later generation of this car (post-'98). The only W-bodies with the 3.8 that early was the Regal.

Ah - got the generation year wrong. That gen w/ the 3.8 started in '97. & went to '03 (the engine is still in it, but that’s a generation after).
