I’m guessing each one is screwed into the prior one.

Wow… That is actually impressive… That deck will be forever straight.

I dont get it guys, I’m not a deck person. what am I looking at here? lol

Perpendicular mounted boards

I’ll bet they are pretty damn strong though…

While it is a waste of wood, is it really a bad thing? Strength and lack of potential to warp seem like positives, plus it’s a decent look as opposed to the common 2x4 look.

Yeah, seems like an aesthetics choice more than anything. You could probably go with smaller structural members space 24oc too without any worries about flexing.

I would have ripped them in half and mounted them ripped edge down. would have saved a boatload of money and looked better from the edges.

This seems like a lot of work to accomplish very little…

it does look cool and very visually different. probably was cheaper than composite the normal way still.

What about long 2x2s?

if you goto an actual lumber yard you can get straight wood

Can anyone buy from them?
Do you have to be a contractor?
The selection of wood from the big stores has been embarrassing in recent years.

A table saw would make VERY quick work of ripping them down. Or you can just buy 2x2s as someone else mentioned.

Well I get that, but wouldn’t you accomplish the same by just laying down the 2x4’s horizontally without having to rip them?

it seems like concrete would be a no brainier for me in this situation. That is a shitload of labor

Wow, all the discussion over wood. This is not uncommon at all. This is how gym floors and bowling alleys are laid out. The guy is probably going to sand and finish it.

ya my dad just got everything to build a 12x14 shed at newfane lumber, all nice straight and no huge knots like the stuff at hd or lowes

and everything was less than hd or lowes

yeah, but the cost is significant. Those boards aren’t cheap like 2x4 studs for wall framing.

yeah, too much discussion indeed.
