He also probably thought the car had stopped or was going to stop instead slamming the throttle. I’d be worried about picking up my gear as well.
I bet the driver had very little visibility because of the steam. he did lock up his brakes at one point when I assume he saw the guy but after striking him he continued on because the damage was already done. I am sure they guy is fine the impact didn’t look that bad.
im amazed that the car could take that kind of impact in the ditch and just continue on unabated.
