any word on that red vinyl?
i did a couple photoshops on what i plan on doing with the lights.
taillights before modification
after white vinyl on center piece and red overlays/spray on the lights
LED retrofit rings to replace incandesent bulbs
night time
can’t wait to recieve them and start working on the LED rings…
im scared to crack mine open …id be interested in seing how that turns out…im just tinting mine red. they have those kool replacement bulbs that open up when u put it in the housing and its a bunch of leds. It won most innavative product at sema or sumthin like that. Where do u get these led rings? all i can think of is the cold cathode neon rings they have with computer fans.

i find that the led replacement bulbs are insufficient because they put out less light than the stock incandescent bulb, i figure if im going to go with LED lighting it has to be brighter than stock in order to make it worth while. i’m going to be making the rings from scratch. i’ve already completed a practice project where i replaced the light in the interior dome light with LED’s and it turned out great, granted the rings will be a bit more complicated…
just a heads up, i noticed a 5mm gap at the bottom of the taillight housing, where the lense meets the housing, you guys will definetly want to silicone em before you install them…
My gap wasnt that bad with my hatch chromies. silicone is still needed for mine…just incase.

Well got mine done. If anybody has any questions ask away.
those turned out nice. what tint did you use and how many coats? did you sand them?
Mine turned out a deeper red with stainglass paint from Michaels. Other than that what kind of black paint did you use for the center peice? And any clearcoats to the lights or center peice? I havnt added a clear coat but i plan on trying after playing around with my old lights to see if this stainglass can withstand light wetsanding and buffing. I dont want it to swirle the paint. i used a light sandpaper to scuff up my lights and i can faintly notice scratches :? but ohh well im sure it wont be chipping off in a year or so

I sanded the center with 1500 grit (except for the reverse lights) painted black, peeled the reverse tape and cleared the whole thing. Used Duplicolor gloss black and Duplicolor clear topcoat. Got this from Canadian Tire.
For the taillights I sanded lightly with 2000 grit and sprayed Testors Translucent Candy Apple red. No clear. Got this from Walmart.
I’m still debating whether I’ll wet sand or buff them. I don’t have much experience with either. I don’t want to fuck them up now that they look so good.
Edit: Enzo, mine look darker in person. They are VERY nice and deep red. and in the first pic you can see Fulltiltpoker.net Invitational reflected on the center piece.
love the reflection, hahaha
Sorry to necro the thread, but would anyone be interested in getting another group buy going on these? I can’t guarantee it will happen, but if there is enough interest we might be able to do it. I’d be down for a set of coupe tails.
I’m down for a set of coupe tails.
i want another set of hatch chromies
i also would like coupe tails. are they the smoked tails or exactly like pictured?
i’d take a set of hatch chromes if this gets going again
I’d go for some chrome hatch lights if this happened again
As far as I know, only the normal red/clear are available. I’ve seen the smoked version on eBay, but I’m not sure if that is custom or not.
Here is a running tally:
- Jericho - Coupe
- Silvia_Drift - Coupe
- enzos_lil_schumi - Hatch chrome
- crsbb - Coupe
- R_T - Hatch chrome
- .:JD240:. - Hatch chrome
^^ edit
Hatch chrome please
i dont know who i even got these from, but i do remember that i stopped dealing with them after they refused to honour a warranyt claim on a set of tails that melted… for the hatch… coupes keep their cool.
