So, I moved out to Syracuse this summer and, as a rule, I go back to Rochester to get any work done that I need, but I need to get an oil change, and I don’t have any place to do it myself or time to go back to Rochester.
Does anyone know any good places out here? The changes on MINIs can be a little tricky due to the position of the filter and the propensity for the gasket to break and leak oil all over the place. I called the local BMW dealer and they won’t do it, and I’m cautious to go to one of the chains, for reasons that should be pretty obvious.
Anyone have any recommendations?
E: Preferably in Dewitt (work) or the Strathmore area near Hiawatha Lake / the reservoir (apartment).
Wtf? BMW won’t do it why?
Walmart, if you like your car a ton, don’t go there unless you watch them like a hawk. Valvoline, just don’t go there because you’ll never get the filter off and they hire all the Walmart rejects/terminated employees (I met a few of them there haha).
I’d really try to get a dealer to do it, the corner garages/chains aren’t very good in Syracuse.
That sucks. The closest MINI dealer is in Buffalo. My girlfriend’s brother works at a Monro in Rochester, and he usually does the stuff for me.
I called the BMW dealership and asked about what service they can do on MINIs - specifically the oil change, and was told “NYSI, that’s it.”
it’s easy as hell… short 1/2 ratchet and 36mm socket… really… sorry can’t help you from here.
Yeah, I’m sure I could do it myself, but I don’t have anyplace to do it or the exact socket I’d need. Plus, I don’t feel like running all over the place to find the right oil filter, or tearing that gasket (again) and having my car bleed all over my driveway.
grumbles That’s gay, it’s just an oil change.
I’d wrangle down a friend with a garage or something so you can do your own oil change but not have to bear with the weather.
